It’s weird that people can feel offended by the idea of a mainstream artist using the same repurposed Myst graphics and No Doubt regurgitations as…well, a good chunk of tumblr. Pop your lil’ feel-special bubble?
I’m not saying I approve of subcultural appropriation (though I obviously do in some cases, because that was the initial jumping point for Gucci Goth…subcultural appropriation within other subcultures?) but can it possibly be a surprise to anyone that pop culture is once again appropriating imagery, themes & sounds from other aspects of social culture? This is what pop does. Not well, and usually late, but nothing new here (in all regards).
I just wish everyone could enjoy fashion and music and not worry about who stole what because nearly everything readily available to anyone is a rehash of something else, and everyone looks silly no matter what they wear anyway. We’re just kind of all agreeing to think otherwise.
GUYS WE ALL WORK WITHIN A SIMILAR AESTHETIC FRAMEWORK AND ON SIMILAR SOFTWARE NO WAY COULD THEIR BE ANY OVERLAP. WHO KNEW THAT PEOPLE WHO USE BRYCE 3D TO MAKE CHEESY RAY-TRACED TROPICAL ISLAND VISUALS WOULD END UP LOOKING THE SAME. WHO KNEW THAT A COLOR SCHEME COULD BE OWNED BY A FEW PEOPLE (ps solojazz got there first in like 1989).
Also Rihanna’s visual were hella boring. Get over it and keep making original content.
